SOUTH DAKOTA AQHA TRAIL RIDE

September 21-23, 2007

High Country Guest Ranch – Hill City, SD

Hill City, SD – Beginning in 1997, the American Quarter Horse Association Ride Program offers horseback riders from across the world an opportunity to enjoy trail riding with fellow horsemen.  The annual South Dakota AQHA Trail Ride was held west of Hill City, SD at the High Country Guest Ranch on September 21-23.

With a portion of the proceeds benefiting the American Quarter Horse Foundation and also a local charity chosen by the committee, 90 riders gathered from 6 states to enjoy the weekend activities.  According to AQHA Ride Coordinator Brad Hauge from Spearfish, SD, the group rode approximately 8 miles on Friday afternoon, 25 miles on Saturday and concluded the trail ride on Sunday after riding another 15 miles.

Evening entertainment and a fund raising silent auction capped off the day on Saturday following an evening dining at the world famous Alpine Inn on main street Hill City.  After tying their horses at the 1880 Train yard, the riders walked the short distance to the restaurant for a steak dinner and then rode back to the ranch located approximately four miles west of town.

The South Dakota AQHA Trail Ride Committee for 2007 included Brad and Mary Kay Hauge, Spearfish, SD and Clyde and Arlys Smith from Belle Fourche, SD.  AQHA partners Sooner & Exiss Trailers and Tex Tan allow riders the opportunity to enjoy the trail rides each year with their generous sponsorship.
