February 2011 I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I had surgery on Valentine’s Day and when I came home from the hospital there was a Region 2 card in the mail, and another in a magazine, I tore it out and hung it on the fridge. While going through icky chemo, feeling horrid – I kept that card and page for my focus, telling my family I WOULD show at Region 2. My girls saddled my horse when I couldn’t… Bill Bormes was always there, even late one night when my phone dialed him by itself . What do the kids call that? Butt dial? Only it wasn’t my butt. The phone was sitting on the dresser. I have no idea how that happened, but Bill thought something bad had happened and frantically tried to get ahold of me.. it was very embarrassing to me. He was and continues to be a major source of support. Joey Bennett and Rigo Gonzalez were so very patient and encouraging. And always, Sue Hinker was so positive and solid. They carried me through that show in September. I was far from sound of mind, but these folks put up with me and encouraged me to just have fun and ride. The R2 show was Jake and my last show. He carried me through the show. We won my first buckl. He had a job to do and did it very well.
